First revealed

Dream Theater’s last album, 2011’s A Dramatic Turn of Events, earned the band its first Grammy nomination and a Top 10 debut on the Billboard album charts. The progressive metal band hopes to continue building on that success with a new, self-titled album — group’s 12th — out Sept. 24.

The Enemy Inside, the first single from the album and the band’s first new music in nearly two years, premieres at USA TODAY.

Dream Theater was recorded between January and May at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, N.Y., with guitarist John Petrucci producing. The new album is also the first to involve new drummer Mike Mangini, who joined the band in time to track A Dramatic Turn of Events, from the beginning of the creation cycle.
